MEDICAL TRAINING
STOP THE BLEED / BLEEDING CONTROL (BCON)
Department of Homeland Security “Stop the Bleed” Campaign. Launched in October 2015 by the White House, Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and a call to action. Stop the Bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
Eligible students are any individuals who may be called upon to assist with trauma patients while waiting for first response or EMS to arrive. The course has been designed for students who have received little or no prior medical training. Examples of potential students include teachers, taxicab drivers, train station attendants, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers.
All BCON course students will require a copy of the student handout and any registration materials.
Course duration: 3-4 hours
BCON is appropriate for individuals who have little or no medical training but who may be called upon as immediate responders to provide initial trauma care and bleeding control to a victim of traumatic injury.
